TRANSPORTATION
Hawaii is one of the most transportation-friendly vacation destinations in the world. And it starts the moment you arrive. Ground transportation is available at all airports in Hawaii. For options and details, please visit: http://www.hawaii.gov/dot/airports/hawaii/koa/koa_ground_trans.htm

Because of its sheer size, however, this is a driving island. Renting a car (all the usual companies are at the airport - Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, National, Thrifty) will help in exploring the island.

Only get a four-wheel drive if you plan to do more adventurous stuff like motor to the top of Mauna Kea or go off-roading in search of secret surf spots. A GPS device isn't necessary, but a detailed map and guidebook that gives specific landmarks and mile markers is essential.

The event venue, the Mauna Lani, has rental car companies on site for your convenience. For details, please visit: http://www.maunalani.com/r_car_rental.htm

TO/FROM Airport:
If renting a car is not in your plans, there are a few options for traveling to/from the airport--The Mauna Lani is located 21 miles from the Keahole-Kona International Airport (KOA).

Taxi: Readily available at the airport, they can cost approximately USD$60.00 one-way.

Shuttle: SpeediShuttle provides transportation to/from the Kona Airport and can cost approximately US$50.00 one-way, per person (please check with Speedi Shuttle for exact prices). However, if there is an accompanying person, there is a slightly lower per person fee. CEOS participants are encouraged to book online where you will receive an automatic 10% discount off your departure/return. For more information, reservations or estimates, please visit: www.speedishuttle.com (click on Big Island).
